Chad Michael Murray et Sophia Bush se sont rencontrés sur le tournage de la série One Tree Hill, et ont commencé à sortir ensembles en 2003. Le couple s'est fiancé en mai 2004, en Australie lorsque Chad était sur le tournage du film House Of Wax. Ils se sont mariés le 16 avril 2005 face à l'océan, à Santa Monica en Californie. Ils se sépareront cinq mois plus tard. Un ami de l'actrice confie " Sophia a une certaine vision du mariage, et Chad n'a simplement pas la même vision. " Sophia a demandé une annulation en février 2006, en donnant pour raison l'infidélité.
